Singapore hosts LALIGA Extra Time

Read Time:2 Minute, 38 Second

Extremely honoured and privileged to join Valencia CF, the Football Association of Singapore (FAS), Optus Sport, Mediapro Asia, members of the LALIGA and many more from the football industry at the inaugural edition of the LALIGA Extra Time in Singapore. It was also the sixth anniversary of the opening of LALIGA’s office in Singapore!

Kicking off the event was an opening speech by Ivan Codina, Managing Director of LALIGA for Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea and Australia.

“We are proud to have been able to publicly present here in Singapore, for the first time in Southeast Asia, LALIGA’s revolutionary new identity to the biggest players in the country’s sports and entertainment industry. For us, it is not just a change of symbol, but the symbol of change: with a new partner like EA SPORTS, with “LALIGA EA SPORTS” and “LALIGA HYPERMOTION” as the new names of our competitions, with a profound transformation in the strategy, positioning, business, technology and audiovisual broadcasts… And LALIGA Extra Time has served precisely to show “The power of our fútbol” as our new slogan says, but above all, to share the knowledge of the industry and bring the competition and the clubs closer to their many fans in this region of the world”, said Iván.

We at Junpiter Futbol felt the excitement. Over the last decade, there has been a radical change in the dimension and recognition of LALIGA at the national and international levels. Today, LALIGA is the largest football ecosystem in the world, with the most extensive global network of all sports properties, present in 41 countries through 11 offices, and with sustained growth in all areas over the last ten years. It is already a recognized brand in national and international reputation rankings, featuring 42 clubs from the first and second tiers.

Apart from the introduction of the new LALIGA symbol and the generous serving of paella and champagne at the event, a panel session by Leonard Soler, LALIGA’s Head of International Rights, and Lars Heidenreich, Managing Director of Mediapro Asia, on the digital transformation of football and how broadcasters and rights holders are working hand in hand to grow the sports, gave all the guests a great insight on the current football scene.

Walid Sukkarieh, Director of Sports, Partnerships and Content at Optus Sport, the LALIGA broadcaster for Australia and New Zealand, also weighed in with his experiences on the recent partnership between LALIGA and EA SPORTS.

Moving closer to the football pitch, Luis Martinez, Director of Valencia CF Academy, Carlos Casal, Head of Football for LALIGA Grassroots and local football hero Baihakki Khaizan (FAS), touched on the importance of a solid foundation in grassroots football to build success at the elite levels of the sport.

The first edition of LALIGA Extra Time was full of great entertainment and laughter! We were glad to catch up with many acquaintances and friends from the LALIGA and domestic football fraternity over the paella cooking, wine & cheese tasting and lucky draw. Not to forget the event also featured an immersive timeline exhibit to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the LALIGA office in Singapore.
