Having just been unveiled by Persib Bandung as the biggest signing in the history of Indonesian football 2 weeks ago, Michael Essien has finally completed his move to Bandung, the capital of Indonesia’s West Java province today.

The former Chelsea & AC Milan midfielder has agreed on a 12-month deal with Persib Bandung. The 34yrs old insisted that money was not the main pulling factor of him moving to this region although the deal was reportedly worth 800,000 euros. The Ghana International also hopes that his move to the Southeast Asia will be the start of many bigger names following suit.

Despite garnering enormous attention from the Indonesian media, the 2006 BBC African Footballer of the Year winner plays down his media attention by hinting that his feet are firmly on the ground. “I am just a normal player, I am Michael Essien. I am here to experience Indonesian football. I am looking forward to it and hope that everything goes well, “said Essien.

Michael Essien wears an Asian size-large jersey. His jersey number is 5. The highly anticipated revitalized Indonesian Super League is rumored to kick off in mid-April 2017.
