Lilywhites

Read Time:2 Minute, 7 Second

My friends used to ask me which was my favorite team when I started playing futbol at the age of 11yrs old. I had no idea. Then, there was once I remembered walking past an A3-szie photo in a gold-color old frame, which was hung above some Lotto and Umbro futbol boots at a sports shop near where I used to live when I was young. It was a beautiful futbol team photo where all the players were in white top and a huge brewery company’s name, Holsten, across every players’ chest. Top of the photo stated, Tottenham Hotspurs.

That’s it. I told myself that I was going to make that team my favorite team. When the first wave of the famous Championship Manager (CM) game was introduced back in the mid-nineties, I would always select that team. But then of course, that passion was never meant to last. As much as I wanted to have a common topic with my friends, I knew nuts about that team and eventually Tottenham Hotspurs was just another guest team which bypassed my life.

20 years down the road, the Lilywhites were once again filling my mind. For all Spurs’ fans, please do not doubt this earlier sentence. I am genuinely following Spurs’ progress, all thanks to some of my futbol buddies surrounding me who’s always chanting COYS!! In fact, my knowledge of the team is still below unacceptable but I do know some of the big names like Gareth Bale, Aaron Lennon, Scott Parker, Jermain Defoe, Michael Dawson, Ledley King and Rafael van der Vaart! I do not normally follow every Spurs’ game but I would make it a point to follow their result in the current Barclays Premier League. I see them achieving impressive results this season to be honest.

Well, back to myself, I am still unable to make up my mind on which is my favorite team to these days. Manchester Utd, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus or Hougang Utd? If I would to give myself one more chance, I would probably go for Tottenham Hotspurs (again). I love exciting and victorious team but to support a non-top-three team and see them progressing and eventually achieving result is satisfying. Despite being known as a third team in London behind Chelsea and Arsenal, the White Hart Lane will forever be packed with supporters believing its motto – Audere est Facere (To Dare Is To Do)! I guess my futbol buddies here are feeling the same!
