The title here speaks all, yes Singapore won the AFF Suzuki Cup for a record fourth times in history after beating Thailand 3-2 on aggregate this evening in Bangkok!

This victory is not a simple victory. In fact, it silenced the critics which didn’t believe Singapore Lions can lift the trophy at Southeast Asia level. Some argued that Thailand was a better team this evening, they deserved to win which they did. However, how in anyway was Singapore not a fantastic deserved winner?

The finals were played in two legs, home and away game, fair and square for both teams. It was true that Thailand was a better team which won 1-0 this evening in the 2nd leg but wasn’t Singapore a better team when they beat the Thai 3-1 at home days ago?

To summarize, the better team won the Cup. Which in this case, Singapore won the Cup from the 1st leg! No doubt in giving the Lions all the credits which they truly deserved, doubters!

And this is certainly one of the most meaningful achievements which Singapore has ever had for some of the players. Singapore’s ever-green striker, Aleksandar Duric will be representing Singapore Lions for the last time and there will never be another great occasion like this evening, lifting the Cup with the Lions, to thank all the supporters for their support all these years and as well as for the supporters to thank him for his excellent striking service for the team!

This is also Coach Radojko Avarmovic (Raddy)’s last game in charge of Singapore which will see him he leaving his post after a long 10 years in Singapore. With today’s win, he has became AFF Suzuki Cup’s most successful coach who has led Singapore to 3 titles in history, 2004, 2007 and this year respectively.

Over the years, there were plenty of articles and voices asking him to be sacked but for those true Singapore football fans who were there during the highs and the lows, you would agree that coach Raddy has nurtured some of the best players in Singapore and also led Singapore the furthest where no other coach in Singapore football history has ever achieved. What can you ask for? As a Singapore football fan, I thank coach Raddy for everything he has done for Singapore football and of course, hope that the successor will carry on with what coach Raddy has put in place and do an even better job!

Attention shall not be taken away from the newly crowned Southeast Asia football king, Singapore! Just like what coach Raddy has told the official AFF Suzuki Cup site, Singapore deserved to be called the best team in the region! Once again, congratulation to Singapore!
