Street football craze hit the neighborhood recently! In conjunction with Singapore Street Festival, Singapore’s one and only Urban Street Team (UST) was taking the lead in introducing Street Panna competition as part of the Street Panna Football Freestyle at Hougang Mall (Singapore) from 29-30 June 2013.

So what is a Panna? A Panna is a move where a player plays or put the ball past in between his opponent’s legs. This style of football is fast, exciting and all about individual technique and skill in a battle/duel environment. In the street football scene, this is a very important move which it is used not only to pass your opponent but also to embarrass them big time!

As more Singaporeans learned about the new sport over the short weekend, everyone started to appreciate the silky footworks displayed by the professional freestylers and futsal players. Among the overseas guests, there were Nam from Ireland, Zeemo from Brunei, Riku from Japan, Jack & Pongsatorn from Thailand and many more!

Not only the competitors were allowed onto the special carpeted pitch for the panna competition, there were many children and some even adults who took up the opportunities to challenge South-east Asia Panna champion Jack on the same pitch too!

Two days event was an enriching one for many street football fans here in Singapore. Great effort by our very own local Urban Street Team and moving forward, hopefully more street football events will be taking place in Singapore!

Singapore Street Festival (SSF) is a non-profit organization, catered to the social and community sectors of Singapore. This social & community project is the brainchild of Ms Annie Pek, a national volunteer and one of Singapore’s most prolific producers. SSF is an annual event aims at providing platforms to the youth in Singapore to allow them to showcase their talent, skills, and capabilities through performing arts; visual arts and forms; lifestyle trends; entrepreneurship, technology, urban sports, health and environment.

Urban Street Team (UST) is formed in year 2009 by Terence Ong, Terry Lee and Mohd Azri, the team has since then recruited more talented members. UST has progressively expanded their portfolio to countries like Thailand and Indonesia. With their extremely seasoned footworks and skills, UST was also invited to represent Team Singapore in The Journey of the Youth Olympic Flame – performed in Seoul, Mexico City and Berlin. UST was also involved in an international theatrical play, “Football Football” where they performed in Europe and in South Africa World Cup 2010.
